FREE Windows Phone Games are NOW FREE for Windows 8

Earlier in the week I did a post to share that four Windows Phone games were made freely available for Windows Phone Users (normally $2.99 each).  These games are FREE for Windows Phone users through April 15, 2013.

Three of those games are now FREE for Windows 8.  I can’t confirm, but I was told they are free until April 17, 2013.

Windows Phone App: Camera360 gets 5 Star Rating

Camera360I need to dig into this a little more but it’s being described as an app that is better than Instagram.  So, if you are tired of waiting for Instagram to get their act together and develop a Windows Phone app, maybe Camera360 would be of interest to you.

Currently based on 443 reviews, it has a 5 of 5 star rating.  That seems to be pretty impressive.  More impressive is that it is FREE.

Windows 8: Work easy. Play Hard

By now, you probably have seen the Surface Pro commercial on TV a 100+ times.

I’ve been happy with this commercial because I think it helps to set the tone of a more hip Microsoft.  Apple did a great job portraying Microsoft as the older, boring company with their “I’m a PC” television advertising campaign over the last several years and Microsoft definitely needs to step up the cool factor story.

Although I’m happy with the recent Surface Pro commercial, I think it misses the mark in telling the Windows 8 with Great Devices story.  I believe the only thing you are able to learn from the Surface Pro commercial is that Microsoft has a new tablet device – that has an integrated kickstand, with an attachable keyboard, and it does inking.

That was until tonight (at least for me).

A New Windows 8 Commercial

Tonight, I saw a new commercial on the TV.  It looks like this video has been out for about a month on the web and I have to admit I hadn’t seen it before.  During one of the commercial breaks for American Idol, they played a 30 second Windows 8 TV ad.  I personally think this commercial does a good job telling the Windows 8 story in about 2 minutes.

I’m eager to hear your thoughts… does the commercial hit or miss the mark?

Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack 2013 HAS BEEN RELEASED

imageMinutes ago, Microsoft has made available the updated version of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack.  There was an update last November that included updates to Application Virtualization (to App-V 5.0) and the introduction of User Experience Virtualization (UE-V 1.0).

Since November, there has been a lot of work on the next version of MDOP.  Read all about the announcement by Chris Hallum on the Windows Blog.

The biggest update is the availability of the Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) 2.0.  In a nutshell, this update provides four key improvements:

  1. A Self Service Portal
  2. Integration into System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and 2012
  3. Compliance reporting calculation improvements
  4. Simplified Provisioning

Additionally, all of these products moved to Service Pack 1:  Advance Group Policy and Management, Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset, Application Virtualization, and User Experience Virtualization.

If you are a Volume Licensing customer, you can download today.
